I have had an exciting idea brewing in my head for months and I would love you to be part of it!
Over the last few years the time I have spent with students, in workplaces and in our free Facebook community has been the most rewarding and exciting work I have ever done.
Along the way I’ve been getting DMs, private emails, requests for private meetings after workplace presentations, and private messages from people who have reached out with questions like “is there a way to have more practical action tools?”, “how can I understand and figure out white privilege?”, “how do I figure out what I might be doing wrong with people of color?”, “how can I be more consistent about my learning?”, “is there a way to go deeper with this content?”, or “how can I stay connected to this community?”
I began to understand that people were looking for an ongoing place to do their own private racism work and someplace to guide their learning throughout the year. Something flexible that responds to the needs of those participating. The more questions I got like this, the more my wheels began turning. I started to see a place where we could…
I can’t stop thinking about where a monthly membership dedicated to helping white people get better at talking about race and taking action against racism, could lead us in 1 year, 3 years or 5 years from now. THAT’S what gets me excited. It’s the progress we would all make if we all knew where we are on our learning path and what the next step specifically for us might be- that’s what fires me up. I have a framework in place, it is definitely not perfect yet, and there are many things I would like to add as we go forward (like monthly short videos featuring expert people of color, I already have one or two that are ready to participate) The vision is there. And that’s why I’d love to extend an invitation to you.
I want you to be part of this…
With all that said, what I am clear about is how this membership will serve all of us as we progress towards get better at talking about race and taking action against racism. That’s what excites me. That’s why I’m waking up early with my mind racing a million miles a minute.
Whether you are like Vannessa and have been attending racism workshops and reading tons of books but still feel unclear about your next step or if you are like Cecelia who has just started and is worried about saying the wrong thing and being embarrassed and wanting to hide, these monthly activities (never taking more than 1 hour/per week) can help you stay strong in your commitment to ongoing learning.
Here’s to your continued progress, to a future where all white people are at ease talking about race and courageous in taking action against racism, and here’s to the success of our new membership! I can’t wait to get started.
